What mentors or teachers do/did you follow?

The teacher who stands out the most to me is Emily Denton, who founded Poseurs Yoga in Seattle, and now Somagicks. I am currently enrolled in her virtual Shape Shifter Somatic Experiencing series that incorporates vinyasa, yin, and yoga nidra with a focus on regulating the nervous system. I also learned a lot about yoga/yin yoga from my mentors Greta Rose Heller and Alyssa Yackley.

Where did you study?

I did my 200 RYT through Practice School of Magic in Seattle, WA in 2017.

What styles have you practiced / trained in?

My first yoga class ever was in 2009 and it was a 90 minute Bikram class. I went hard on that Bikram high for 3 years, and though it slowed down and I became more involved in vinyasa and yin, I continued to practice Bikram yoga until the pandemic hit. Even though I don’t practice it anymore, I still love Bikram yoga! The 26 poses are SO GOOD for the health of the spine. It also helped me to learn to love repetition. Repeating the same sequence for years gave me a really great understanding of how basic fundamentals and practicing in repetition opens up a lot of space to notice how my body and mind respond when confronted with a challenge.

Book or movie recommendations?

Gosh…so many. For yoga, The Complete Guide to Yin Yoga by Bernie Clark and The Living Gita by Sri Swami Satchidananda. Recently, I’ve been diving deep into the poetry of Ko Un. Ko Un is a poet from South Korea who survived the Korean War, went on to study Buddhism, and later in life became a human rights activist and was imprisoned three separate times protesting the government. He’s such a badass, and a hero, honestly! To me, his poems read like beautiful reflections, like something you’d find looking at a lake, mirroring the trees and the sky upside down, quietly, with endless depth and imagination. For movies, I’ll go with Blue Velvet, Ghost Dog, Empire Strikes Back.

What hobbies do you enjoy most?

For my body, I avidly train in Muay Thai. I also play the drums and the flute in my band Terminator.
